Financial Bind
by Anum Sattar

  1. My parents could not afford to make a payment
  2. of $2,760 on the 10th of July,

  2. because they were asked to pay an extra $3,000
  1. before the deadline of the 25th of May —
  2. as a compromise for an unpaid balance of $18,000
  1. that they planned to cover in August
  2. without any Pell Grants or Stafford Loans
  1. and rather than encourage me to write for the time being,
  2. my professor told me not to leave any poems at his door
