My 11th Billy the Kid Poem

by David Groulx

If I could only write poems to Billy the Kid

I'd make them taste sweet like brandy & leather on the tongue

with a pen like the one that stroked Jesus' death warrant or

    my own, ungifted

condemned to a toke in one hand,

    the other,

    completely empty

    and open.
