Dispenser
by Vanessa Couto Johnson

    We keep entering
    what we think

    are gates, and the next patch
    has small mammals chewing.
    Crisp but I need more vitamin.

    As the series
    years itself

    the oddest bouncer hinges
    on a gate not yet built;
    task list tacked nowhere,

    the wind up
    ourselves.
