Bone Broth
by Jennifer Lothrigel

    This is what's left
    simmering on low
    on an early morning stove
    steaming up the windows.

    This is a naked ritual,
    a hot womb
    here in the pot.

    This is the good magic
    of becoming animal again.

    These are the bones
    that winter predicted -
    sparsely meaty.
    This is their final offering.
