by Paul Bamberger

  1. mercy mercy
  2. she came running down the hill
  3. sweat on her brow
  4. she had never seen the likes
  5. not that they weren’t real enough
  6. more real than she could bear
  7. mercy mercy
  8. the dogs came running up the hill
  9. scavenging bones along the way
  10. this was what she had
  11. and a get-away-car
  12. mercy mercy
  13. tell her never never look them in the eye
  14. sundays she would all but forget
