Enter Grace
by Barbara Ryder-Levinson

    The veins that gave life
    now shrink
    There is order
in the grace of the fallen

    The finch that perched
    then hurtled off
    perched again

    Grace in her every movement
    awkward, sudden
    no premeditation
    finch without thought

    Nerves inform her muscles
    muscles twitch
    one moment to the next
    no preparation
    no air between action

    No air, no action
