WINTER IS NOW UPON ME (After Su Tung Po)
by George Freek

  1. The atmosphere is thick.
  2. Things of the dark
  3. crawl from their holes.
  4. A dead leaf blows in the wind
  5. like a petal from a rose.
  6. The moon defies the sky.
  7. But I will take no notice
  8. of the moon. The stars
  9. are distant mysteries.
  10. They are as dim
  11. as the paper lanterns
  12. in my unkempt garden.
  13. They hang like ornaments
  14. in a paper tree,
  15. and they light no way for me.
